Welcome

It is a pleasure to invite you to explore our website.  You probably found us by

a) Searching for a DAR Chapter in the Centralia, Illinois, area, or

b) Searching for information on the Prairie State.

We hope you found us because you want to join a DAR chapter.  The Prairie State Chapter is an active group of women who since 1940 have worked to foster the ideals of our National Society: Patriotism, Historic Preservation, and Education.  Daughters participate in many worthwhile activities, make friends, and keep the spirit of our Revolutionary ancestors alive.  We have a proud heritage! Any woman 18 years or older -- regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background -- who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.  Contact our registrar to attend one of our chapter meetings.  You can also learn more about becoming a DAR member here.

DAR objectives are:

•to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence by the acquisition and protection of historical spots and the erection of monuments; by the encouragement of historical research in relation to the American Revolution; by the preservation of documents and relics; and by the promotion of celebrations of all patriotic anniversaries

•to promote, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge, thus developing an enlightened public opinion, and affording to young and old such advantages which will enable them to perform the duties of American citizens, and

•to cherish, maintain, and extend the institutions of American freedom; to foster true patriotism and love of country; and to aid in securing for mankind all the blessings of liberty

Prairie State Chapter offers many opportunities for service, such as working with youth through  educational programs, encouraging our members to get involved in their communities to assist with historic preservation and patriotic events, and promoting the preservation of our family and local histories.  It provides the opportunity to meet new people with similar interests and to develop friendships with others who enjoy promoting the ideals of patriotism and love of the country.  It is a way to work with others with the same passion in trying to make America a better place in which to live.  Please take a look around our website and if you think you are eligible are interested in joining, or wish to visit our chapter, please contact us.

We are the proud descendants of those spirited men and women who aided in the fight for American independence.  We believe in patriotic, historic, and educational ideals as embodied in our motto, "God, Home, and Country."
