Chapter regent Ann Chappell decorated this cake honoring not only the chapter anniversary, but also the anniversary of the National Society and recognizing member Margaret Hays for 45 years of service.
Margaret was also honored with a United States flag to be flown in the city of Centralia with her name and years of membership in the chapter. Margaret is pictured holding her flag with Regent Ann Chappell.

Members of the Prairie State Chapter set up a flag line across Interstate 64 to honor Chief Petty Officer Phillip Barrow. The Patriot Guard was escorting CPO Barrow cross the eight states of Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California so that he may be buried in accordance with his wishes. The flags are seen from the I-64 Woodlawn, Illinois overpass bridge.
Thanks so much to the members of the Kaskaskia College Veterans Club for putting up flags around Centralia. They will stay up until after Veterans' Day. (Photos courtesy of the club)

Each year on Memorial Day, members of the Prairie State Chapter place flags on the graves of all veterans buried in Elmwood Cemetery - more than 1,000. One year after the 9/11 attacks, our chapter held a candlelight memorial service to remember those who lost their lives. A similar service was held on the 10 year anniversary. At that time, the chapter planted a memorial tree in the city park. You can learn more about DAR membership on the National DAR site.
