What We Do

Patriotism

Our love of country compels us to help make our community a better place. Therefore, we engage in several community service projects. Oh, and you may see us expressing our patriotism in area parades and events. See you there!

Military and Veterans' Causes

Because of our proximity to Naval Station Great Lake and the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, Little Fort Chapter, NSDAR, has a unique opportunity to serve the numerous active military personnel and veterans who live around our community. We donate food and gently used household goods to Midwest Veterans Closet which supplies struggling veterans with their everyday needs. We donate toiletries and comfort items, such as blankets, to the health care center. During the season we do Christmas carols at the long-term care facility there.

We also save lids from bottles, toothpaste tubes and other containers to be recycled into a park bench for Freedom Farm for Vets, a farm in Wadsworth, Illinois, that offers veterans a peaceful respite from everyday stress.

Education

We support education with the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, naming one high school senior as a DAR Good Citizen from 10 local area schools. We are eager to sponsor applicants for Illinois DAR scholarships and NSDAR scholarships. Click here for more information.

We help raise funds for DAR-supported schools, as well as for Chemawa Indian School, by collecting bottle caps for Coke reward points. We also help support Bacone College, an accredited, four-year college for Native Americans located in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

We enjoy educating our area schools and community about the U.S. Constitution during Constitution Week in September.
