Potawatomi Trail of Death Marker Placed by Springfield Chapter

DAR Marker: Potawatomi Trail of Death
October 1, 1995. This DAR Marker commemorating the Potawatomi Trail of Death was established by the Springfield Chapter in our centennial 1895-1995. Members of the Historical Trail of Death Commemorative Caravan of the Fulton County Historical Society, Rochester, Indiana, travel the entire trail every five years to commemorate the 1838 forced removal of the Potawatomi Indians. The next Trail of Death Commemorative Caravan will be in 2013. The bronze DAR Marker, with the DAR insignia, is located near Riverton, Illinois, at 5319 Oak Crest Road, Springfield.
