Real Daughter Marker in Springfield, Illinois
 

“Real Daughter” is an honorary title, given to those members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution whose father or mother gave patriotic or military service to the American Revolutionary War effort. There were 770 Real Daughters in DAR Chapters all over the United States.

marker On October 19, 1923, a NSDAR Real Grave Marker was dedicated at the gravesite of Real Daughter Phoebe Deake Cleveland 1811-1900. She was born 8 February 1811, in Greenfield, Saratoga County, NY, and died May 23, 1900. She is buried at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, in Springfield, Illinois, Block A, Lot 103. Phoebe was accepted in the Chicago Chapter ( (the first chapter in the National Society as well as the Illinois State Organization) on April 16, 1891. Her father and patriot,  Charles Deake Jr.., was only 14 when he was in the war. The Battle of Bennington was fought on the farm of her grandfather Charles Deake Sr. Her husband was Daniel T. Cleveland. Her daughter was Josephine P. Cleveland 1839-1897, a Springfield Chapter Charter Member. Click the photo for a larger image.
