Historic Preservation

DAR members support a variety of projects to help preserve our cultural heritage.  A major ongoing project is to preserve genealogical records, artifacts, and historical documents.  DAR not only preserves them but makes these items available to the public at our library at DAR Headquarters and online thorough our GRS (Genealogical Research System, which can be found at DAR.org.

Some of our other historic projects include restoring and maintaining historical sites; locating, restoring, and marking Revolutionary War patriot gravesites and headstones, and organizing and contributing to major restorations, commemorations, and memorials.  DAR members place monuments around the world to memorialize people and events throughout American history. We are fortunate to have in Illinois one of the Madonna of the Trail monuments placed by the DAR in 12 states across the country.
