Former Wabash Regent Sue Ellen Wallace is has served as Illinois DAR State Chaplain and on other state committees. Marge Brown has been State Conference Credentials Co-Chair, among other state posts. Registrar Barbara Karger was an organist at the 2013 and 2014 National Continental Congress in Washington, DC.
Our chapter works closely with the White County Historical Society,
which maintains the Old Graveyard in Carmi containing the grave of
Patriot William Stewart and a monument to all Revolutionary War
soldiers buried in the county. Wabash Chapter collaborates with the
society by giving tours of the Old Graveyard to fifth graders at
"Pioneer
Days," a fall field trip for county students. The event teaches
respect for cemeteries as well as history. Marjorie Brown is an active volunteer at the Mary Smith Fay Genealogy Library in Carmi, and member Cindy Birk Conley serves on the historical society board along with Brown.
We also work with our local
VFW and American Legion posts in fundraising events and commemorations
on Memorial and Veterans Day.
