Old Goshen Trail

— Mount Vernon, Illinois —

Our Chapter

The Old Goshen Trail Chapter was organized on April 9, 2011, with twenty-eight members. Our chapter is grateful to the Daniel H. Brush Chapter of Carbondale who encouraged and nurtured our organization.

Our chapter provides services to veterans, active-duty military, children of military and area school children. We place the Flag of the United States of America around the County Courthouse and 5th Appellate Courthouse for commemorative days, Flag Day and the 4th of July. We honor a DAR Good Citizen in each of the four Jefferson County public high schools with a special luncheon and a monetary award. Also included in this honor is our DAR Scholarship district nominee.

Chapter members volunteer their assistance to prospective DAR members and other researchers utilizing the state DAR genealogy collection. Inspired by and in honor of the service of women in the military from the Revolutionary War to the present day, chapter members volunteer their assistance in maintaining the Women Veterans Monument located on the front lawn of C. E. Brehm Memorial Library. Chapter members are always inspired about the true meaning of patriotism by attending and supporting naturalization ceremonies.

Since the Old Goshen Trail Chapter was organized, members have been attracted, inspired, and mentored through informative chapter programs, attendance at historical and patriotic events, and participation in volunteer service activities.
