The Mary Little Deere -- Fort Armstrong Chapters of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution recognized six students for good citizenship.
An additional student was recognized as an outstanding ROTC cadet.
The students are nominated by their peers and high school faculty for having qualities of good citizens. Local volunteer judges review their transcripts, essays, letters of recommendation and community activities to nominate one of the students from the local high school nominees to advance to the district level for Northwestern Illinois.
Students that advance to the state and national level are eligible for scholarships.
Katherine Moore, an 18-year-old senior at Alleman High School, was the DAR chapter's selection to advance in the competition.
Ms. Moore's activities include Key Club, National Honor Society, Sigma Alpha Delta and the golf team. She has served on the Student Council for four years. Her volunteer work includes Project Renewal, helping needy children, "Teens for Tomorrow," and the Student Hunger Drive.
Student Amelia Booker, of Rock Island High School, was named the ROTC Outstanding Cadet. Ms. Booker received a bronze medal at the award ceremony held last month for student nominees at the Butterworth Center in Moline.
Ms. Booker was selected by her ROTC unit based on her leadership qualities and scholarship.
