Hegeler Carus Mansion
Completed in 1876, the Hegleler Carus Mansion is a Victorian masterpiece listed on the National Register of Historic Places.





LaSalle Canal Boat and Lock 16 Center, Cafe and Gift Shop
The Illinois and Michigan Canal looks tiny by modern standards, but it forever changed the nation when it linked the Illinois River and Lake Michigan in 1848. Instantly, New York and New Orleans were connected. Canal towns like LaSalle boomed as the canal drew settlers and created markets. At the Lock 16 Center, step back in time and spend 90 minutes riding through the 19th century on a mule-pulled replica canal boat, the Volunteer. Hear stories of the illinois pioneer days from the crew. Visitors can dine at the Lock Center cafe.





LaSalle County Genealogy Guild
Located in Ottawa the Guild houses many older LaSalle County records from the courthouse as well as many historical related books and records. Some Illini Chapter members are active at the guild as volunteer genealogists as well as officers.





LaSalle County Historical Museum & Complex
Located in a remodeled stone warehouse in Utica, built in 1846, this museum contains artifacts and relics pertaining to LaSalle County history. The complex also features the Aitkin School, an actual one-room school house, a blacksmith shop and an 1875 barn.

Ottawa's past is colorfully depicted on several outdoor murals throughout the downtown area.





Ottawa Scouting Museum
Promoting and preserving the traditions of scouting, this museum features many scouting items as well as three year-round outdoor hiking trails.





Union Depot Railroad Museum
Displays include an HO scale model of Mendota in the 1930s and telegraph office, railroad memorabila and rolling stock. The museum operates the Amtrak station, which has been restored to its former 1940s beauty.
