Chapter History

Our chapter was organized May 24, 1930, as the Park Ridge Chapter, NSDAR. Ada Earhart Cummings (Mrs. Charles A.) was the organizing regent. When the membership grew beyond the limits of Park Ridge, the chapter decided to request a change of its name to reflect this larger area of service. The name, Twenty-first Star Chapter, NSDAR, approved by the National Board of Management on December 8, 1972, was chosen to commemorate the historic event of Illinois becoming the twenty-first star in our flag when admitted to statehood on December 3, 1818. The name is thus a reminder of the honored position of our own state of Illinois as represented in our nation's flag, and of the Union's greatness.
